Different Characteristics and Uses of Different Diamond Micron Powders

Different diamond micron powders have their own characteristics. 
Firstly, there are monocrystalline diamond micron powder and polycrystalline diamond micron powder.

Monocrystalline Diamond Micron Powder 

1. (metal bond diamond powder)
Synthetically produced under high pressure and temperature conditions, this type of monocrystalline diamond micron powders have high strength,thermal stability and intact crystal, which is in blocky grain shape and a variety of cutting edges. It has a very effective retention force with the metal binder. 
Then this type of diamond micron powder is ideal for grinding glass, tungsten carbide and polishing PCD, etc.

2. (resin bond diamond powder)
Another kind of monocrystalline diamond micron powder is characterized by brittleness. Its particle shape is in the irregular quasi-circular shape and has a rough and uneven surface. When the particle bears stress, its brittleness leads to particle fragmentation, resulting in new sharp cutting points. This kind of micron diamond powder is ideal for making resin bond diamond grinding wheels, which offer fast cutting without particle loss for improved performance. It has a soft polishing or lapping effect.

Polycrystalline diamond powder
1. Through chemical treatment, the surface layer of monocrystalline diamond particles is made similar to the surface layer of the polycrystalline diamond particles. The surface of polycrystalline and rough particles provides many contact points between the diamond particles and the workpiece, plus its own great self-sharpening. This similar polycrystalline powder has the same characteristics and uses as polycrystalline diamond powder, but it is more economical and cost-effective. And it is ideal for making diamond suspension for polishing sapphire and other precision polishing usage.

2. This polycrystalline diamond micron powder is produced through the shock synthesis process which uses controlled explosions. And it has a very rough surface morphology, which provides numerous contact points between diamond particles and the workpiece. During the lapping process, particles can fracture and expose new, sharp cutting edges. This self-sharpening of the particle allows for continuously high abrasion rates.
